How to Make French Toast
Originally a way to use up stale bread, hot,
steaming French toast is a perfect addition to a brunch, as well as
making a delicious cold weather breakfast treat. Follow these steps, and
you'll soon be basking in delicious goodness.
Edit Ingredients
- 1 egg for every 2 slices of bread
- Non-stick spray, olive oil, or butter/margarine
- Cinnamon (season to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon (3 ml) vanilla extract (vanilla essence, optional)
- Bread (6 pieces), type of bread is up to your preference
- Icing Sugar, syrup, jam, etc.
- Milk (depending on number of eggs, 2 tablespoons per egg)

- 1Set the stove or electric pan to medium high heat. Place the pan over the burner if cooking over the stove. Add non-stick spray, olive oil or butter so that the bread will not stick to the pan.
- Spread the fat across the pan if needed, or mop up any excess.

- 2Crack the eggs into a bowl.
- 3Add milk, vanilla extract, and cinnamon and beat them with a fork or whisk.
- 4Turn the heat down to medium-low, once the pan is heated sufficiently.
- 5Dip the bread into the egg mixture.
- 6Coat a slice of the bread with the mixture on both sides.
- 7Place each slice onto the pan.
- 8Cook the toast until golden on both sides. ( Approximately 45 seconds per side.)
- 9Put the toast on a plate. Then serve immediately with syrup.
- Add hot apple sauce, cinnamon or icing sugar for extra deliciousness.
- For the sides, add bacon, sausages, fruit with whipped cream, eggs etc. - these all go very well to make a wonderful meal.
